Nancy Hammaker Crum, wife of the late Robert E. Crum Sr., died Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Frederick, Maryland.
Born in Libertytown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur F. Hammaker and Bernice Kiracofe Hammaker.
She was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick, where over the years she taught Sunday School, chaired the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board and Staff Parish Relations Committees. She was one of the first Stephen Ministers of the church and later went on to be a Stephen Leader. She sang in the Gospel Choir for many years, was a member of the Friendly Circle Sunday School Class and Chaired the Peal Bell Fund Raising Drive.
She was a past President of the Frederick Lion's Club and Daybreak Adult Day Care Center. Mrs. Crum was also active with many other organizations in the community: a member of Coordinating Authority for People Services, Frederick County Coalition for the homeless, Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and American Legion Post 11 Auxiliary. She served as State Chair and County Representative to the Federal Emergency Management Commission and also chaired the Maryland State Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
She received the 1992 Distinguished Alumni Award from Frederick Community College and was a graduate of Hood College and later served as a member of their Board of Associates. She served with the United Way of Frederick County for 13 years as a fundraising Director, retiring in 1996. She was requested to return until a replacement could be found, leaving in 2000.
Mrs. Crum loved to travel and visited many countries, Italy being her favorite. She also enjoyed playing golf and tennis, and sharing long walks with her poodle Mtizi.
She is preceded in death by her sons, Robert E. Crum Jr. and Bruce H. Crum Sr., and grandson Erich R. Muehl. She is survived by her daughters: Linda Crum Muehl (Paul), and Ann E. Crum of Frederick; grandchildren, Angela (Muehl) Metz (David), Robert E. Crum III (Heather), Katie (Crum) Korotky (Chris), Bruce H. Crum, Jr., and Jami (Crum) Lake, and step-granddaughter, Jesica Fink; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Lake, Bruce Lake, Ciara Lake, Malia Ritter, Julianna Crum, Amelia Metz, Savannah Muehl and Josephine Korotky; and step-great-grandchildren, Kolton Metz, Olivia Metz, Jeremy East and Brooklyn East.
She will also be remembered by special friends, Marty Wagner, Kathy Crum, Pat Remus, Beverly Kinsey, and Sylvia Tyeryar.
A memorial serviced followed by a time for visitation with family and friends will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 West Second Street, Frederick, Maryland on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11 a.m.
