Nancy (Stauffer) Anderson, 90, formerly of Walkersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Homewood at Crumland Farms.
Born October 17, 1924 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Katherine (Cramer) Stauffer.
Nancy graduated from Walkersville High School. She went on to graduate from Western Maryland College and Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. Her artwork currently resides with her daughter and grandchildren, each of which possesses their own artistic talents that were inherited from her gracious spirit.
She was a lifetime member of Glade United Church of Christ in Walkersville, where she had been active for many years. Her relationship with her community was deeply rooted in her family and ancestors that were an integral part of the town of Walkersville. She worked alongside her father and brother in the family mercantile business, J.H. Stauffer and Sons, and also her father's business of Aunt Lucy's Hams. The Stauffer family heritage was very important to her as it is to all of us. She has entrusted this legacy to her remaining family for safe keeping.
Toward the latter part of her working career, Nancy worked for 15 years as a receptionist with Homewood at Crumland Farms. It was her greatest pleasure to greet all she would meet with a smile and a comforting hand. Her greatest strength was sincere kindness to all she would encounter. Although in her last two year of her life brought many challenges, she was always comforted by those who knew her from the past and from those who now cared for her. As her family, we are eternally grateful for their loving hearts and hands. She still smiled with grace and humility as we all walked along with her during those final years.
She enjoyed traveling, shopping, fine dining and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many years of her life were spent as a wonderful grandmother to her pride and joy, her five grandchildren. We are pleased that she was able to enjoy the company of her two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Tessa. Their presence in her life brought her great joy and pride.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Nancy K. Houk; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many friends; and several cousins.
The family would like to sincerely thank her many caregivers at Homewood, her family and friends, and all who enriched her life and are much loved and appreciated.
A Celebration of Life in Nancy's memory will begin on 11 a.m. on Friday, January 16th at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, MD 21793 with the Rev. Philip N. Curran officiating. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and gathering in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will be held privately at a later date.
