Myrtle Louise Smith , 85 of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on Thursday June 9, 2016, at home.
Born on November 19, 1930, in Boydton, Virginia, she was the daughter of Joseph Medimore Thompson and Lucy Mae (Gregory) Thompson. She was the wife of the late Thomas Delmar Smith, whom she was married to for 53 years.
She was a graduate of Boydton High School.
She worked as a faithful and regular employee at the South Mountain Inn in Boonsboro, Maryland. She also worked as a cashier for the Kensington Drug Store.
Myrtle was a member of the Mount Lena United Methodist Church and a member of the Mt. Lena United Methodist Women's and served as treasurer. For a short period of time, she worked as the library's assistant along side her friend Phyllis Hill.
She was a member of the Merry Widow's Club at the Mt. Lena United Methodist Church.
Myrtle loved to travel. Most recently she traveled to Israel, Costa Rica and Alaska.
She was a very kind hearted, considerate soul. She spent may days at the hospital visiting people who needed a care-giver.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Darlene Hill and husband Marshall Clifton Hill of Hagerstown, Maryland and Mark T. Smith of Boonsboro, Maryland; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Kellar and husband Kevin of Clyde, North Carolina and Andrew Paul Hill of Hagerstown, Maryland; sister, Linda Young of Sanford, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents and husband, Myrtle is also preceded in death by one son, Larry Thomas Smith and her brothers Walter, Herman and Paul Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Ron Kurtz will officiate. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends between 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, immediately before the scheduled service.
