Mrs. Joyce Gordon

Mrs. Joyce Gordon, formerly of Frederick, passed away May 27, 2023 at age 94 in Lansdale, PA.  She was born November 8, 1928 in Newark, NJ to Harry and Pearl Justman.  She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Milton Gordon, in 2017.

Mrs. Gordon earned her B.S. degree in bacteriology from UCLA.  She married Milton in 1952 and settled in Frederick following her husband’s military service at Fort Detrick.  For a time, Mrs. Gordon worked in the lab at Fort Detrick.  She served as president of the Montevue Home Auxiliary, the local nursing home, and devoted many years in various roles at Montevue.  She was also active in Sisterhood, National Council of Jewish Women and Beth Sholom Congregation where she sang in the choir.  For many years, she was an aide in the Biology Department at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where she was often teaching in the classroom and was a friend to all the students.

She is survived by her son Marc (Gayle) Gordon of Charlotte, NC, son Bruce (Ellen) Gordon of Stamford, CT, daughter Jackie (John) Haynes of Lansdale, PA and grandchildren Lee, Kerris, Dana and Daniel.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway (Route 15), Frederick, MD.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to Beth Sholom Congregation, Frederick, MD or the charity of one’s choice.
