Monica Pauline Taylor (née Brady), 85, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Md.
Born on June 30, 1935, in Kingston, Jamaica, Ms. Taylor was George Brady and Winifred Pottinger’s fourth of five children. Ms. Taylor immigrated to the U.S. in the early 70s to pursue a career in nursing. By the end of the decade, her five children Paulette, Neville, Sidonie, Donovan, and Christine had emigrated from Jamaica to join her in Washington, D.C.
By the 90s, Ms. Taylor was an established licensed practical nurse. She spent many years in home care, attending to multiple patients a day. She found satisfaction in her work and often spoke fondly of her patients, some who became her longtime friends. In 1995, Ms. Taylor retired from her career in health care and moved into her eldest daughter’s Thurmont home. In retirement, she enjoyed growing her own herbs for cooking, reading and journaling, and nurturing her grandchildren's spiritual development. She attended the MorningStar Family Church, formerly Evangelical Bible Church of Thurmont.
Left to cherish her memory are Ms. Taylor’s five beloved children: Paulette Braithwaite of Thurmont, Md, Neville Braithwaite of New Carrollton, Md., Sidonie Allen of Damascus, Md., Donovan Braithwaite of Silver Spring, Md., Christine Smith of San Diego, Ca.; 19 precious grandchildren; 14 sweet great-grandchildren; dear sister, Carmen Brown of St. Catherine, Jamaica.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Frederick Smith and Ezekiel Taylor and her siblings Joy, Thelma and Aubry.
