Minnie Blanche Sweeney

Mrs. Minnie Blanche Sweeney, 92 of Thurmont, died Wednesday evening at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Gettysburg, PA. She was the wife of the late Elmer Floyd Sweeney.

Born in Thurmont on December 21, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Omma (Brice) Welch. Minnie retired from the Cambridge Rubber Company in 1977.

A loving mother, grandmother and friend, she will be missed by all that knew her. Surviving are her ten children; Betty Six of Keymar, Blanche Toms of New York, Elmer Sonny Sweeney and wife Patricia, Donald Sweeney and wife Patricia M., Ruth Wilhide and husband Robert, Sr., John Sweeney and wife Patricia C., Kenneth Sweeney and wife Donna, Joyce Lookingbill and husband Robert, Joseph Sweeney and wife Judy and Bernard Sweeney and wife Terry all of Thurmont; 36 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Ridenour and wife Pat of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Minnie was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise Glacken, a brother, Buck Welch, a son and two grandchildren.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 until 9 PM at the Stauffer Funeral Home 104 East Main Street, Thurmont.

Services: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the church Minnie attended, Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church , 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, MD with Rev. Sally Joyner-Giffin officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery where her grandsons, Jeff Six, Kenneth Sweeney, Kevin Sweeney, Robert Wilhide, Jr., Richard Wilhide, Scott Sweeney, Mark Lookingbill, Mathew Lookingbill and Joseph Sweeney, Jr., will serve as pallbearers.
