Minnie Modelski

Mrs. Minnie Anne Modelski, 88, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Andrew M. Modelski her husband of 40 years.

Born on August 10, 1929, in Greensberg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick Warren and Glea Mathews Riggs of Stahlstown, PA, descendants of Leonard and Elizabeth Stahl, the founders of Stahlstown, PA. Minnie was a 1947 graduate of Latrobe High School. She was a member of the Stahlstown United Methodist Church where during her youth was active in many church groups including the Choir and various advisory boards and the area Girl Scouts and 4-H Club. In 1966 at age 37, she went back to school earning a B.A. in Geography from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971 and a Masters in Library and Information Science in 1972. That October, she began a 17 year career at the Library of Congress Geography and Map Division in Washington, DC. It is where she met her husband Andy. She belonged to numerous geographical and mapping societies and organizations In 1989, she and Andrew retired and moved to Corner Brook Farm in Louisa, VA where they enjoyed traveling, gardening, raising Vizsla dogs and having family and friends visit. They moved to Frederick in 2007.

Surviving is addition to her husband are step-children: Diana C. Modelski and partner Will Maculuso of Frederick and Marcus G. Modelski of Olney; step-granddaughter, Jessica K. Oweis and husband Raj of Washington, DC; brother-in-law Thomas Modleski of North Port, FL; nieces: Christine Campbell Aldrich, Susan Campbell Norris and Terry Hardin; nephews: Robert Mathew Riggs, Jr., and Barry E. Carns. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Anne Carns Oltz and her first husband Edward E. Carns.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM on Friday, August 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where a celebration of Minnie's life will begin at 1:00 PM.

Internment will be private.
