Mildred C. (Provard) Thomas, 89, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at the Williamsport Retirement Village.
Born on May 30, 1921, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Victor C. and Ruth Liti Alice (Bingaman) Provard.
Mildred was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.
She was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mildred was very proud of her employment at the following companies in the Hagerstown area: Hoover Frozen Custard on Pennsylvania Avenue, Woolworth’s and McCrory’s Department Store Downtown and various Washington County School Cafeterias.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin C. Thomas, Sr.; her two daughters, Shirley L. Bartgis of Westminster, California and Darlene K. Snyder of Hagerstown, Maryland; and her two sons, Henry C. Thomas of Sacramento, California and Mikel L. Thomas of Clear Spring, Maryland. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly M. (Thomas) Gilbert; her son, Edwin C. Thomas, Jr.; her sister, Helen Bowers; and two grandchildren.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church Cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the funeral home.
