MILDRED "PETEY" "MILLIE" MAE WEDDLE REED
Mildred "Petey" "Millie" Weddle Reed, of Thurmont, MD, passed peacefully at home
after a long illness. In May, she celebrated sixty years of marriage with her husband, Roy Charles William Reed, who survives her.
Born May 24, 1931, in Mountaindale, she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Weddle.
She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Having had numerous valued and loving relationships with her extended family as well as having an abundance of friendships; Millie was well-known, loved, and appreciated by many.
She attended Frederick High School and later worked for Sagner Suits in Frederick.
Following her employment at Sagner and continuing for many years, she worked in the garment industry at Claire Frock in Thurmont, MD, until its closing. During her time in this industry, she was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU). She retired from her working career after fourteen years as a desk clerk at the Super 8 Motel in Thurmont.
She had attended Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church in Thurmont, and more recently
enjoyed attending services at New Life Services at Mountaindale Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Gary Wayne Reed and his wife,
Donna Landsperger-Reed of Thurmont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jay
Michael William Reed of Thurmont, Corey Nichole Reed Bowman of Gettysburg, P A,
and Kelly Elizabeth Reed Andrew of Thurmont, MD. She is also survived by two
great-grandchildren, Charlie Michal Bowman and Curtis Wayne Bowman of Gettysburg,
PA.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD on Monday, September 17, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm, where services will be held Tuesday, September 18, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Tom Bowles officiating.
Interment will follow at Weller United Methodist Church Cemetery.
