Mildred “Millie” Marion (Flaska) Larson, age 88, died of injuries sustained as the result of a fall in her home on Friday, July 26, 2013. Mildred was the wife for 63 years of her husband, Edgar “Bud” Larson. She was born June 3, 1925 in Cicero Illinois to the late James and Marie Sojka Flaska.
Mildred grew up on the west side of Chicago in Berwyn, Illinois. She graduated from Morton High School in 1943. She graduated from Iowa State University, Ames, IA in 1947 with a degree in Human Nutrition.
Upon her marriage in 1949, she moved to Frederick where she lived her life as a homemaker and the mother of three daughters. In addition, she taught nutrition for a number of years at Hood College and Washington County Hospital School of Nursing. In later years, she was home-hospital teacher for Frederick County Public Schools.
Mildred was a long time member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick. She was an active member for many years in the Frederick Woman’s Civic Club and the Auxiliary of the Frederick Elks Lodge #684.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Karen (James) McNitt of Frederick, Barbara Larson (Thomas Finkbiner) of Tampa, Florida, and Paula Larson of Frederick. She was the grandmother of Erin (Jan) Ruby of Baltimore, Ian McNitt of Frederick, and great-grandmother of Steven Ruby. She was the host mother in 1979 of German-AFS student Astrid Eder, now of Centennial, Colorado. She is also survived by her niece Alice Loeb of California and nephew Robert (Renee) Sklenicka of Georgia.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Frank Flaska and Ann Sklenicka.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 30, 2013 from 6-8pm at the Stauffer Funeral Homes P. A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick where Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday July 31, 2013 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Terri Driver-Bishop will officiate. Interment will be private.
