Mildred Bowers

Mildred Runkles "Millie" Bowers, 84, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown. She was the beloved wife of Arthur "Jack" Bowers for 64 years.

Born on April 19, 1934, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Norman W. and Hazel C. (Moler) Runkles.

Millie graduated from Brunswick High School Class of 1952. She attended the now Strayer University in Washington, D.C.  For 35 years, she was a ticket agent for Capital/United Airlines where she had the opportunity to meet many country music singers and celebrities who quickly became her friend. She maintained these friendships over her entire life, where many of these friends, including several country music celebrities, visited in her home on numerous occasions. These celebrities included Nashville stars such as Ernest Tubb, Jack Greene, Jean Shepherd, Jeannie Seely and other Grand Ole Opry stars.

She was a member of the United Airlines retirees group. Millie and her husband, Jack, attended the Brownsville Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Joanne M. Runkles of Brunswick; a brother, Norman Runkles and wife, Gloria, of Haymarket, VA; nephews, Norman and Kenneth Runkles; three great-nieces, Molly Runkles, Brianna Runkles and Kenna Leigh Runkles; many other nieces and nephews; her childhood friend since the age of three, Jeanine Wheeler; friend and co-worker, Carol Washburn; and her country music friend, Shirley Wilt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Brownsville Church of the Brethren in Brownsville with Rev. Alan Smith officiating. Burial will be held at the adjoining church cemetery.
