Mildred Blickenstaff

Mildred I. (Leatherman) Blickenstaff, 91, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village in Boonsboro, Maryland and formerly of Myersville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 20, 2014.

Born on August 31, 1922 in Ellerton, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Carrie (Brandenburg) Leatherman.  Her husband, Hugh L. Blickenstaff,  preceded her in December of 1992.

Mildred graduated from Middletown High School in Middletown, Maryland.

She was lifelong member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren in Myersville.

Mildred worked as a top stitcher at Hanover Shoe Company in Middletown, retiring after thirty-five years of dedicated service.

She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to be with her family. She also loved to quilt.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Faye Hays and her husband, Sam, of Westminster, Maryland; and her son, Richard Blickenstaff and his wife, Barbara, of Myersville; three sisters, Florence Doyle, Annabelle Martin, and Grace Moser; and three brothers, Arthur, Ernest, and Elwood Leatherman and his wife, Gladys.  She is also survived by her four grandchildren,  Dana Gavin, Scott Hays, Brian Blickenstaff, and Lisa Eckenberg; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle, Gaither, and Franklin Leatherman.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, 11301 Meeting House Road, Myersville, Maryland 21773.  Rev. Tim and Donna Ritchie-Martin will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will follow at the adjoining church cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
