S. Michael Rasberry, age 76, of Walkersville, MD, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Inova Alexandria Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Sheckells) Rasberry. They were married for 12 years.
Mike was born on April 13, 1948, in Tupelo, Mississippi to the late Mitchell C. and Frances K. Rasberry.
He graduated from Sherwood High School in Ashton, MD. He then enlisted in the United States Navy for four years. After that he joined the Montgomery County Police Department for fourteen years. During that time, he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology. Later he was injured on the job which ended his police career. In 1985, he purchased Village Way Liquors and was co-owner and operator for 20 years. In 2005 they decided to sell the business.
He was not ready for retirement yet, so he joined his friends and became a school bus driver for FCPS. He enjoyed the children and their parents. Mike always went the extra mile in driving them a little further up the road to their houses in icy and snowy weather. He was very loved and respected. When he retired from driving, he received stacks of thank you cards, gift cards, and monetary gifts. At this point, he was ready to travel with Nancy. They loved cruising and trips to the islands, along with trips within the United States.
Mike loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He loved the Washington Redskins (Commanders) and the Nationals. He rooted for several others. Mike was a member of APA Pool League, The Frederick Owls Club and the American Legion.
As a proud dad, he often reminisced of the days of taking his daughters, Michele and Jennifer, to travel sports games all over. He continued supporting his grandchildren in all their sports through high school.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he will be missed by his daughters, Michele Barndollar (Clay), Jennifer Mathis (Mike) and Sherry Barrick; his grandchildren, McKenzie Mathis, Zack Mathis, CJ Barndollar, Ryan Barndollar, Tanner Summers and Karsyn Barrick.
