Michael Lawrence Lorfing, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home July 31, 2023. Born November 29, 1946, Michael's generous and comedic spirit touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Having served in Vietnam with the United States Army, Michael’s military service was a source of great pride to him and a testament to his unwavering dedication to his country. After his military service Michael had an accomplished career, dedicating 35 years of his life to the Constellation Energy Group. His dedication and hard work earned him a well-deserved retirement in 2009. Educated at Catonsville High School and Catonsville Community College, Michael achieved a Bachelor of Arts Degree through the BG&E program.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael had a passion for music that brought joy to his life and those around him. He loved playing the guitar and found immense satisfaction in teaching others to play. His patience and jovial nature made him an exceptional teacher, inspiring many with his love for music.
In addition to his music Michael had a rich tapestry of hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He loved power walking through the neighborhood and cherished the kisses he received from all the dogs. Known as the Ambassador of Woodridge, he made it his mission to spread laughter everywhere he went. Michael also had a deep appreciation for nature and enjoyed fishing and boating on Lake Linganore. He was an advocate for preserving these natural resources, recognizing their importance not only for himself but also for future generations.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Mary Farrell Lorfing; his son, Eric Farrell Straub; and cherished Dog "T.J." Lorfing. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Catherine Bright; niece, Julie Ann Anton; and her husband, Johnathan Anton, along with their children, Dexter Lawrence and Duke Johnathan Anton. Michael's parents, Lawrence and Mary Jane Heyser Lorfing, preceded him in death.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Michael's life will be held on August 12, 2023, at Stauffer Funeral Home-Frederick located 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. The gathering will begin at 1:00 PM and conclude at 4:00 PM. This will be a time for family and friends to share memories and honor the incredible life of Michael Lawrence Lorfing. Children are welcome. May he rest in eternal peace.
