Michael Grady, 58, of Frederick, MD passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1955, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of Catherine W. and Henry M. Grady of Mt. Airy, MD.
Michael grew up in Rockville, MD, in the neighborhood of Twinbrook. The neighborhood and all of the friends that he met and grew up with there remained important to him his entire life. He kept in touch with most of them throughout his life and enjoyed talking with them, keeping up with the events of their lives, and recalling their wonderful times together.
Michael graduated from Richard Montgomery High School and upon graduation, went to work as a Mason for 40 years. He started his brick-laying career as a laborer and was trained by his boss, Sam Anselmo, and a coworker. He worked hard and rose to the position of foreman and was a foreman for about 20 years. His work was both creative and well done. Michael paid attention to detail and safety on the job. His skill and interest in the art of masonry shows in the many different buildings and projects he worked on throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. He loved working in the outdoors and found each new job to be interesting and he often said his work was never boring. Michael enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed music and played guitar and mandolin.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Melissa McDaniel, his son Shawn Grady and wife, Julie, his sister Colleen Grady and niece and nephews Laura, Kyle and Brent, as well as aunts and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, on Sunday, June 29, 2014 from 2-4PM. At Michael's request, the service will be closed casket.
Burial will be private at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, VA.
