Merle Crawford

Merle Lee Crawford, 76, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on April 13, 1940, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Wilmer and Effie F. (Wakenight) Crawford.
He was a 1958 graduate of Williamsport High School.
Merle was employed for 18 years with Hershey in Hagerstown, and for the past 40 years co-owned with his wife the Crawford's Confectionery in Boonsboro.
He loved hunting - especially the times all of his sons, and special grandson Gage, would all go to the cabin. He enjoyed talking with his customers at his restaurant and especially the "table of knowledge" gang. Two of his favorite quotes were "watch your speed" when the kids would leave and "watch crossing the street" to Brittany and Tiffany, his granddaughters. His family was his life, along with all his good friends, and he loved them all dearly.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn M. (Violet) Crawford; two daughters, Kendra Cole and husband David, and Brenda Bowman and husband Wayne, all of Boonsboro; four sons, Robert Bloyer and wife Leesa, of Hagerstown, Michael Crawford and wife Jan of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Allen Crawford and wife Pam of Boonsboro, and Daren Crawford and wife Casey of Maugansville, Maryland; and 11 grandchildren, Brooke, Gage, Brittany, Tiffany, Robert, Kameron, Haven, Jessica, Jennifer, Josh, and Darrell. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Johnny, Gordon, and Donald Crawford; one sister, Gloria Roth; and one son, Scott Bloyer.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Jack C. Payne Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery at Locust Grove in Rohrersville, Maryland.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the funeral home.
