Melvin Palmer

December 13, 1931 — October 15, 2015

Melvin Earl Palmer, 83, of Myersville, Maryland  passed away on October 15, 2015 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 13, 1931 in Wolfsville, Maryland. He was the son of the late Albert and Olive (Kline) Palmer.

Melvin worked as a truck driver and retired from Hydro Conduit in Hagerstown in 1996.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949-1952.

He was a member of the Pleasant Walk United Methodist Church and held several positions over the years.

Melvin coached little league at Harmony and Myersville for several years.

He loved being busy and remained active by gardening and mowing until his health deteriorated recently.

He is survived by his loving spouse Yonna (Rowe) Palmer of 62 years; his four children, Dennis and his wife Rosetta of Boonsboro, Maryland, Kathy Green of Myersville, and Kevin and his wife Kim of Middletown, Maryland; Five grandchildren, Melvin J. Palmer, Chris Palmer, Shannon Randolph and her husband Moe, John Arnold, Hilary Palmer and Jeremiah Roelkey; Four great-grandchildren and expecting another great-grandchild in February 2016; his brother, Glenn Palmer and his wife Irene and his sister Evelyn.

In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in death by two sons, Carroll Palmer and Randy Palmer; his one sister Alice Swope and his one brother, Cecil Palmer

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 18, 2015, between 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.

A private Memorial Service will be held for family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Pleasant Walk United Methodist Church, 11240 Pleasant Walk Road, Myersville, Maryland 21773 or Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, Maryland 21702
