Mr. Melvin Preston Moffett, 91 of Knoxville, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen Moffett who passed away in 1994.
Born July 10, 1920 in Washington, DC he was the son of the late Henry and Rose Moffett.
Melvin served in the US Army during World War II and he was a member of the VFW Post 10421 in Brunswick.
He retired from Amtrak after 43 years as a Passenger Service Representative. He started his lifelong railroad career with Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of New York Hill United Methodist and he enjoyed playing cards and bowling.
He is survived by his two sons, William Brian Moffett of Miami Beach, FL and Richard Francis Moffett and wife Sandra of Charles Town, WV, seven grandchildren, Christina, Kelli, Joseph, Lora, April, Katie and Kimberly, two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Alexandra, a brother, Henry Glenn Moffett and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sisters.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Ave., Brunswick on Sunday, July 1st from 2-4 and 7-9PM and funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 2nd at 11:00AM with Pastor Noni Sigler officiating.
Interment will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Melvin's name to the VFW Post 10421, 317 Brunswick Street, Brunswick, MD 21716.
