Melvin Heim

Mr. Melvin Eugene Heim, 86, of Frederick, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Somerford Assistant Living. He was the husband of the late Kathleen M. Heim, who predeceased him on June 24, 2015. They were married July 2, 1952.

Born January 30, 1931 in Creagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles E. Heim, Sr., and Nellie A. (Wolfe) Heim.

Melvin Heim volunteered for the Army during the Korean War and served in the European forces command in the Army Signal Corp. from 1951-1954 in Germany.

Mr. Heim was employed by Genstar Stone Products Company (formerly M.J. Grove lime Co.) for 34 years retiring in 1991 as Ready Mix Concrete Production Manager. He also worked part-time at Mid County Paints after his retirement until 2009.

He was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Utica Lutheran Church, serving as Church Council president, church financial secretary, member of church choir, Pastor-Parish relations committee, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, usher scheduling, church maintenance manager, and co-chairman of Utica picnic.

He was a member of the Utica Cemetery Association serving as treasurer from 1964-2014. He was a 4-H leader for the Monocacy Village Boys 4-H Club. Additionally, he was a member of the Glade Valley Golf Club, serving as treasurer and club representative to the Maryland Interclub Senior's Golf Association (MISGA), and a member of the VFW.

Surviving are his son, Larry W. Heim and wife, Cindy; two grandchildren, Derek and Brett Heim of Irmo, SC; one sister, Mildred Hesterberg of Belair, MD; one brother, Victor Wolfe of Charlottesville, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 14 sisters, Glenna Knott, Marcie Seiss,Virginia Toms, Ruby Geisbert, Lucille Gregory, Hazel Masser, Klora Eicholtz, Lillian Wilcom, Evelyn Ramsburg, Margaret Myers, Dorothy Miller, Glenna Stup, Elizabeth Stull, and Helen Hakey; and five brothers, James Wolfe, George Wolfe, Clarence Wolfe, Charles Heim, Jr., and Edward Heim.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11 at St. Paul's Utica Lutheran Church, with visitation at the church from 1:30-2 p.m. The Rev. Albert Lane will be officiating.

Interment will follow in Utica Cemetery.
