Melissa Ann Dudrow Smith

Melissa Ann Dudrow Smith, 53, of Walkersville, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2009 after a year long battle with cancer.

She was born June 7, 1956 in Frederick, MD. She was the daughter of Dorothy E. Dudrow and the late C. Lester Dudrow.

As a young person she was very active in 4-H. She excelled in the dairy, clothing and photography projects. Melissa was the 1973 Frederick County Farm Queen and in 1974 was the Frederick County Dairy Princess. She was also crowned the Maryland State Dairy Princess in 1974.

She was a 1974 graduate of Frederick High School and graduated from Shepherd College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. She was an accomplished flutist. She was member of The Walkersville United Methodist Church.

She was presently employed at Hood College as the Administrative Assistant for the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Education. She had also been employed by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association from 1982 to 1998.

Known to her friends and family as Missy she loved supporting and cheering for her two sons in their baseball endeavors. She was very proud of her two boys.

She is survived by her sons, Brian A. Smith and Matthew K. Smith at home. Sister June Weedy and her husband Kim of Frederick, MD, Brother Kevin L. Dudrow and wife Bonnie of Adamstown, MD, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her ex husband Kevin B. Smith and his parents Mr. & Mrs. Barton Smith of Westminster, MD. Also missing her at home are her dogs Sandy and Tabitha.


Visitation: The Family will receive friends from 6-9 PM opn Monday, January 4, 2010, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville.

Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 2.00 PM on January 5, 2010, at the Coffman Chapel on the Hood College Campus with Rev Beth O'Malley officiating. Inurnment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or to The Dudrow Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation of Frederick County, MD, Inc., 312 East Church St., Frederick, MD 21701
