Mehrl Shultz, Jr.

November 4, 1935 — September 4, 2010

Mehrl Wilson Shultz, Jr., died on Saturday, September 4,2010, at Georgetown University
Hospital in Washington, D.C. , of an acute brain hemorrhage. He was the beloved husband
of Crissie Ann Kilby Shultz whom he married in 1965. Mehrl and Crissie celebrated 45
years of marriage in August 2010. "Sonny", as most everyone called him, was born in
Frederick on November 4, 1935. The son of the late Merhl W. Shultz, Sr., but survived by
his mother Edith Mackley Shultz. Siblings are: sisters, Gladys Carey and husband
Carlton; Carolyn "Susie" Gordon and husband Joseph "Butch"; and sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Cindy & Irvin "Skip" Renn, all of Frederick, Sonny is predeceased by a
brother, Carroll Shultz, who passed away in March 2010. Nieces and nephews are: Greg
Carey, Lori Carey Gardner and husband Charlie, Teresa Shultz and friend David Wilcom,
Scott Gordon and wife, Amy, and Jennifer Renn Przybocki and husband Brian and many
great nieces and nephews. Sonny is also survived by a godson, Todd Duane Johnson and
wife Jill.

After graduation from Frederick High School in 1953, Sonny was employed for many years
by the Donald B. Rice Tire & Service Station on South Market Street hill in Frederick.
Later, he joined the local carpenters union of D.C., Virginia, Baltimore and Hagerstown
working on many construction projects throughout those regions. Additionally, Sonny was
associated with R.K.S. Contractors in Frederick until its closing and in the year 2000, he
retired from J.e. Grimberg Construction Company of Rockville, Md.

Sonny served in the #558 Signal Corp and was on active duty at Fort Meade Maryland
during the Cuban Crisis of 1961. He is a member of the Moose Lodge 371 in Frederick
since 1967.

For many seasons, Sonny participated in making apple butter as part of the "Monocacy
Apple Kookers" winning several awards in competition. He had multiple interests. A few
of which were: snowmobiling, hunting and antique shopping, and while Sonny's primary
residence was in Frederick, he, together with family and friends, enjoyed many get-away-
days at his beloved second home on the Chesapeake Bay. He pursued fishing, boating and
crabbing as well as all the pleasures that being by the water offered. A day without blue
grass or country music playing was the exception in his life given that he was an avid fan of
the country performer George Jones. During the NASCAR racing season, Sonny could be
found by the radio or in front of the T.V. with his best friend "Kasey" a little Lhasa Apsos
in his lap. Sonny's presence will be especially missed by special friends Jack and Mary
Louise Johnson, Charlie and Sharon Roderick, Sperry and Christa Storm, Gene and Libby
Abrecht, Dottie Capone, Francis Portner, Kenny and Dottie Brown.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Thursday, September 9, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9pm, where services will be held Friday, September 10, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Phillip Fogarty officiating.
