Mr. Meade Millard “Pop” Willis, 86 of Frederick died on May 11, 2014 at College View Center where he has resided with his wife Mary since last summer. His son Billy, his wife Mary Buhar McCracken Willis and dog Mr. Bailey were at his side.
Born on January 16, 1928 in Abingdon Virginia he was the son of the late William John “Jay” and Lucille Ruth Large Willis.
Meade was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Meade grew up in the Glade Spring/ Abingdon Virginia areas where he and his wife owned a farm and other properties until they took residence at Greenlawn Drive in Bethesda. He enjoyed working on the farm in Virginia for years even while living in Maryland.
He was retired from C. W. Wright Construction Co. and then from M. W. Willis Trucking Co, Inc. Frederick, MD. He loved spending his days with his son Billy, driving Dump Trucks and working on them. His C.B handle was “Papa Bear”
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Joanne Swacker of Hawaii and James MW. “Billy” Willis and his partner Ellen Helmstetter and their dog “Mr. Bailey”. Brother Walter Willis of Olney, MD and sister Shirley Faye Clayborne of Texas. Grandchildren Leesa Swacker Stein and husband Robert and Great Granddaughter Kari Ana Stein all of Florida. Grandson Steven Swacker and his daughter Micayla of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by a Great Grandson Robbie Stein and sister Randi Goodman.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May 15, 2014 from 6-8-pm at the Stauffer Funeral Homes P. A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 16, 2014 in the Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tim May will officiate. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Rockville, MD.
