Maureen Harrah

Maureen (Patrick) Harrah, 48, of Boonsboro, MD passed away January 15, 2018. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 26, 1969, she was the wife of James Harrah and mother to Benjamin, Abbigail and Camille. She was the daughter of Rosalind (Pohar) and Nicholas Fotos (deceased) and sister to William Patrick (Tammy) and Todd Patrick (Jill).

Since March, 2014, she courageously fought Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) with dignity while cared for by the tremendous staff at the Johns Hopkins ALS Clinic of Baltimore, MD and Hospice of Washington County . Her family is especially thankful for all the love and support they received from the Boonsboro community, friends and family near and far, but most importantly the Doak family of Keedysville, MD.

Maureen received her Bachelor of Education (Health) from The University of Toledo, but after a short career she decided to remain home and dedicate herself to what she was most proud of, her children.

An accomplished athlete and avid sports fan with a green thumb, she always preferred giving of herself. This included coaching both tee-ball and youth basketball through the Strongsville Recreational Department, the Boonsboro Elementary girls’ basketball league, and the Mid-Maryland girls’ basketball league, coaching soccer through the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) and volunteering however she could for her children’s high school sports teams - like announcing games and keeping the official score.

Her family is accepting friends on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro, with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to The MOj13 Foundation, Inc. (pronounced mō jē, after Maureen’s nickname, Moji) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organized in her memory to help others with ALS that lack the financial support to gain assistive tools and equipment for their daily needs.
