Mrs. Mattie Eugene Ammons Broom, 97, of Frederick, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 22 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick. Her home is now in heaven.

Born May 23, 1912 in Macon County, North Carolina, she was the wife of the late Reverend Lewy H. Broom and the daughter of the late John and Martha Ammons and is the last member of her generation.

Surviving are two sons, James T. Broom and wife Genevieve of Frederick, Hase Buford Broom and wife Opal of Six Mile, South Carolina, 4 daughters, Sue Stewart and husband Milford of Six Mile, South Carolina, Frances Parris and husband Eugene of Brunswick, Bonnie Gibson and husband Ronald of Hagerstown, Linda Johnson of New York City, 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren; 16 great-stepgrandchildren; 5 great-great-stepgrandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 2 sons, Timothy Broom, Mack Carroll Broom, a daughter, Martha Gross, a son-in-law, Robert Thomas, 4 brothers, Lonzo Ammons, Asbury Ammons, Don Ammons, Albert Ammons, and 3 sisters, Clyde Teague, Catherine Teague and Bessie Burrell.

She will fondly be remembered by Dwight Thompson, Frankie Johnson, Thomas Fisher and Thomas Gross.

Mrs. Broom was a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Ridgeville. Mattie lived by putting her faith in God first.

She loved to attend and sing in church along with her family, listen to her family quartet Pilgrims of Song, or visit with family and friends. Mattie loved God and her family.

Mattie was a lady of many talents. She could fix things inside and outside the house, sew an outfit without a pattern, play piano by ear, quote poems from grade school and write poetry, the list goes on.

Visitation: The family will receive friends on Thursday September 24, from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd. Mt. Airy, MD., and on Friday September 25 from 10:00am until time of Funeral Services at 11:00am.

Services: Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Tommy Parris, Pastor Wallace A. Lusk and Pastor John Sharff, will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center, 1900 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, Maryland 21702.
