Matthew "Matt" Paschal

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, Matthew Alan Paschal, loving husband and beloved brother, passed away in Frederick, at the age of 54, after a brief illness. 

Matt was born on Christmas Eve, 1967, in Washington, DC.  His parents, Charlene S. Appelman and Angus Walter Paschal, chose Matt as their son shortly after his birth.  He graduated from South Carroll High School and later followed his passion for history through classes at Frederick Community College.  He worked in a few different careers throughout his life, running restaurants, supervising biotechnology manufacturing laboratories and supporting medical research and development.

Matt was a loyal friend, avid football fan (go silver and black!) and animal rescue advocate. He was known for his strength of will, love of American history and classic rock, and kind spirit.  He was always in the middle of reading two or three different books to learn something new, was passionate about discussing and debating politics, and devoted himself to rescuing and caring for animals that needed a home.  He brought a lot of happiness to those he called his friends.

Matt was preceded in death by his father, Angus, and his mother, Charlene.  He is survived by his wife Suzanne; his sister Amy; his brother, Michael; and several nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Home located at 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Celebrant Jacqui Kreh will officiate services. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Matt's name to the Frederick County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
