Matthew J. Long, 88, of Frederick, MD, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick. His loving wife of 61 years, Ann M. Long, resides in Frederick.
Born August 1, 1927 in Shenandoah, PA, he was the son of the late Matthew and Mary Ryan Long.
He was a veteran of the United States armed forces serving with the Army Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post 11 in Frederick.
He was also a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church parish in Walkersville.
Mr. Long was a graduate of Catholic University and also did graduate work at Columbia University. He was retired after 27 years of employment as Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Public Building Service - GSA. He was Managing General Partner for both the Marlon Industrial Park in Orlando, FL and the Aloma Business Center in Winter Park, FL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Patricia Long Clark and husband, William, of Tilghman Island, MD,Mary Susan "Sue" Schnapp and husband, Skip, of Silver Spring, MD, Robert George Long and wife, Patti, of Summerville, SC and Nancy Louise Sandhaus and husband, Jon, of Coronado, CA; eight grandchildren, Kate and Sam Clark, Adam, Ben and Matthew Schnapp, Mattie Seastrunk, Nathan Figg and Abbey Long.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Long and Anna Long and brothers, Thomas Long and Gerald Long.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Citizens Care and Rehab Auxiliary Fund, 1920 Rosemont Avenue, Frederick, MD 21702.
