Matilda "Tillie" Stottlemyer

Matilda "Tillie" E. Stottlemyer passed away very peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Born on October 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Dorothy Thomas and wife of the late Calvin W. Stottlemyer.
She and Calvin moved to Frederick, MD in the late 1950's to raise their family.  She worked at Frederick Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Assistant until her retirement.  She expressed many times in her late years how much she loved her work caring for others.  Tillie truly lived her faith in God everyday.  She was very active at the Nazarene Church in Frederick.  She later  transferred membership to the Church of the Brethren and became involved in the Stephen Ministry.  After moving to Hagerstown she transferred membership to the Longmeadow Church of the Brethren and met many new friends.
Taking time out to travel she was able to go to Europe and also enjoyed many trips in the states and Canada.  She was an avid collector of light houses and tried to visit as many as she could. Some of her best days were spent cooking wonderful dinners and having family at her home.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Calvin in 1995 and three brothers Carl Thomas, James Thomas and Frank Thomas.  One sister June Arentz, and granddaughter Carrie Stottlemyer and a daughter-in-law Audrey Stottlemyer.
She is survived by two sons David Stottlemyer and his wife Connie of Hagerstown, MD and Ronald Stottlemyer of Turlock, CA.  She is also survived by her sisters Jean Brown of York, PA, Mary Lawrence of Hanover, PA, Betty Spahr of Hagerstown and Shirley Francis of Fayettville, NC.  Additionally, she is survived by grandchildren Melanie Raynor of Middletown, MD and Nate Stottlemyer of Passadena, MD, Ronald Bashop and Thomas Bashop of Indiana, and Ronald Lee Stottlemyer, and LeighAnn Young of California and Kelly Stottlemyer and Jaye Stottlemyer of Oregon and the proud Gandma of 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 6-8PM where a funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21 at 10AM.  Rev. Lerry Fogle will officiate.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Hanover, PA.
