Mathilda F. “Tillie” Kent Dishong, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the age of 94, at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick. Tillie was born on November 4, 1928, in Frederick and was the daughter of the late Carroll Wallace and Fern Hanway Kent.
Tillie was married to Robert “Bob” Dishong for 52 years, who passed away on January 9, 2012. Tillie lived most of her adult life in Western Maryland, moved to Short Gap, WV in 1985 after the flood took their home and all their belongings and then eventually moved to Thurmont to be closer to family.
Tillie worked for the government until her retirement. Tillie enjoyed crocheting, crafting, bowling and was in numerous tournaments across the US and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Harriet Chapel for many years and enjoyed spending time with her church family.
Surviving is her sister, Patricia K. Plum, of Thurmont; and also surviving are many sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Tillie will be remembered by many friends and family members, especially Danny Harmon who would visit Tillie regularly, take her for drives and keep her company for hours. She loved her cat, Fern, whom she named after her Mom, and she loved her many "Suzies" who were always Boston Terriers.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Col. James L. Kent, Wallace Hanway "Buster" Kent, Thad Kent, Seth Thomas Kent, Phil Kent and John “Jack” Kent; and two sisters, Mary Sue Potter and Sarah “Sally” Bartgis.
The memorial service and interment will be held on July 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Harriet Chapel, Catoctin Episcopal Parish, in Thurmont, MD with Rev. Sally Joyner-Giffin officiating. Following the memorial service, please join the family in the Parish Hall to celebrate and share the many memories of Tillie.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations be made, in memory of Tillie, to Harriet Chapel, Catoctin Episcopal Parish, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stauffer Funeral Home in Thurmont.
