Mrs. Mary Kraft Gorelick, 84, was born in Madison, WI on September 6th, 1924, the only daughter in the family of 6 children born to the late Alphons Kraft and Lena ( Niehus ) Kraft.
She died on January 29th, 2009 at Frederick memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Mary graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1946 and earned a Master's degree in Bacteriology in 1948 from the same institution.
Subsequently she moved to Frederick to take a research position at Fort Detrick. While at Detrick, she met and then married Arthur N. Gorelick in 1957, who died in 1994.
Mary was an avid cook. In younger years, she volunteered extensively, especially with Frederick County Public Schools. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles and a good joke.
She was a long-time member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.
She is survived by her three children, Robert Gorelick ( wife Mariaestela Ortiz ) of Frederick, Anne Gorelick Rosenwald ( husband James Rosenwald ) of Frederick, and Peter Gorelick ( wife Karen Gorelick ) of Reisterstown; two grandchildren, Laura Rosenwald and Kevin Gorelick; two of her five brothers, Frederick Kraft of Madison, WI and Richard Kraft of San Bernardino, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many warm friends of long standing.

Services: A memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 112 E. Second St., Frederick, on Friday, February 6th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Mary will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband of 37 years, who was a Colonel in the Army Reserves. I am coming to meet you, Archie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
