Mrs. Mary Helen Brandenburg Browning, 83 of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Mt. Airy.
She was the wife of Earle Lynwood Browning of Mt. Airy. They married on August 30, 1947 and they had a wonderful 62 years together.
Born August 5, 1926 in Kemptown, MD she was the daughter of the late Rudy Leroy and Anna Lucille Day Brandenburg.
She graduated from Frederick High School in 1944.
During and after World War II, she worked for the War Production Board of the Federal Government, and later for the General Services Administration. She was an active member of the Providence United Methodist Church in Kemptown, and while living in Bethesda for 30 years, was an active member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. She received life memberships from the United Methodist Women of both churches.
Mary Helen was an outdoors person. She loved working in her yard and garden. She also enjoyed working with her husband on their small Christmas tree farm. She loved to travel. Her husband sometimes called herPollyanna since she was cheerful most of the time, and never made negative remarks about anyone.
In addition to her loving husband Lynwood she is survived by a daughter Lynette Martin and husband Ronald of Mt. Airy, a son, Gary M. Browning and wife Jacqueline of Joppa, MD, three sisters, Betty Dixon, Charlotte Herrmann and her husband Jim, Ann Emswiler, a brother, Rudell Brandenburg and his wife Nancy, eight grandchildren, Jason Martin and wife Kristine, Susanna Lawrence, Crescent Martin, Joel Martin, Schehera Marshall and husband Avery, Nathan Browning, Gena Browning and Timothy Browning, four great grandchildren, Deborah Martin, Nicholas Lawrence, Lindy Lawrence and Eden Martin, two great great grandchildren, Kahlyssa Coleman and DJ Coleman.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Marlene Browning, a brother, James Brandenburg and a sister, Rosalie Staley. Mary Helen is also survived by many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy on Monday, February 8th from 3-5 and 7-9PM.
Services:
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 9th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donna Renn, officiating.
Interment will be in Kemptown Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Hubble, Larry Emswiler, Donald Emswiler, Dale Runkles, Nathan Browning and Jason Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Providence United Methodist Church, 3735 Kemptown Church Rd., Monrovia, MD 21770-8701.
