Mary Ellen Creager Brown

Mrs. Mary Ellen Creager Myers Brown, 90 of Thurmont, MD, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. Born September 10, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Edith Grace Wiles Creager. Twice married, she was preceded in death by Kenneth A. Myers and Hiram J. Brown.

Mrs. Brown was a life member of the United Church of Christ, Thurmont. She was a graduate of Thurmont High School and Western Maryland College. After graduation she worked as a Supervisor for NYA in Hagerstown and was the Manager of Women’s Club in Hagerstown. She then worked for 15 years for Washington County Social Services. She returned to Thurmont in 1955 and became associated with the family business, Creager’s Furniture Store and The Creager Funeral Home. She retired in 1987.

Mrs. Brown was a past member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Thurmont, The Thurmont Women’s Literary Club and Thurmont Dance Club. She worked for years as Troop Service Director for The Girl Scouts and many years for the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #168 and the Thurmont AMVETS Auxiliary Post #7. She was also a member of Homewood Auxiliary and Hoffman Homes for Youth.

Surviving is one daughter Suzanne Myers of Hagerstown, who is the last surviving member of the Raymond Creager family. Also surviving is a stepson Ronald E. Brown and his wife Rosemary of Selbyville, Delaware.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Friday, July 16, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9:00 p.m., where services will be held Saturday, July 17, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Les Sims officiating.
