Mary Willoughby
July 31, 1937 — May 8, 2016
Mrs. Mary Phyllis Willoughby, 78, of New Market died Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Kline Hospice House. She was the wife of the late James Donald Willoughby, Jr., who predeceased her on February 25, 2016.
Born July 31, 1937 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Joyce McGuirk.
Mary was an administrator for many years with the Howard County Board of Education.
She was an incredible wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her husband and children/grandchildren and all family members with great earnest. Her favorite things in life were Christmas day, Sunday family suppers, her dogs, walking and watching the birds, flowers and trees, visiting O.C. Maryland and sitting on the beach with her family and watching the ocean and waves and walking the boardwalk. She dearly loved her sister Angela Hine as her mentor and joy to her heart. And she always had a smile on her face when in the company of her greatest friends Joyce Bogart, Joyce Leisure, Joan Hine, and Nancy Harig. Rest well Mom, we miss you and will see you again some day!
Mary is survived by her children, Larry Donald Willoughby and wife, Roseann (Delaplane, VA); Lori Ellen Willoughby (Cooksville, MD); Jennifer Joyce Morali and husband, Michael Jay (Cooksville, MD); her brother Edward Julian McGuirk and wife Janice (Laurel, DE); four grandchildren, Gavin Scherr, Zachary Scherr, Kelsey Morali, and Kaitlyn Morali; and her dear friends.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Daun Kathleen Scherr; and her sister, Angela Hine.
A celebration of her life will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 15th from Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Officiating will be the Rev. Tim May.
Interment will be private.
