Mary Louise Wiehl, 74, of Gaithersburg, MD, died peacefully in her sleep at home on December 28, 2024.
Born on December 22, 1950 to George and Midge Wiehl, Mary grew up in Illinois. She is survived by her three siblings, Diana Renton, Sharon Cox and Jim Wiehl.
She graduated from Elizabeth Seton HS in South Holland, IL in 1968, and from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana in 1972.
Mary moved with her family to Maryland in 1970 and had a 30+ year career as a personnel specialist with the FBI, breaking ground as the first non-agent supervisor of her office.
She and Graham VanNote had a long term relationship. She was "Grandma Mary" to his family.
After taking an early retirement, she eventually moved to Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. She was active in the Society of FBI Alumni, Inc and at Asbury, where she volunteered in various endeavors, including providing scholarships for employees intent on furthering their education.
Mary enjoyed shopping, playing bridge and celebrating any occasion with friends in the Bistro at Asbury.
Services will be held on Friday, January 17 at 2:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, or the NOVA Chapter of the Society of FBI Alumni, Inc.
