Mary Thomas

Mary Catherine (Phillips) Thomas, 79, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born on May 2, 1932 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Sara (Strawderman) Phillips.  Her husband, Donald A. Thomas, Sr., preceded her in death in 1990.

Mary had been formerly employed for 25 years with H & R Block.  She had also worked at Londontown Corporation Factory in Boonsboro, and Montgomery Wards in Hagerstown.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Boonsboro where she was active with the Women's Guild.

Mary was an avid Orioles fan, and she will be fondly remembered for her love of bus trips, crochet and needlework.

She is survived by her daughter Judy K. Bowman and husband Herb of Hagerstown, Maryland; her son, Louis L. Thomas and wife Debbie of Boonsboro; her sister, Ruth Ann Trimble of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Dawn Robison-Lefferts, Gina Zeger and Kyle Thomas, all of Hagerstown, and Nick and Travis Thomas of Boonsboro; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Andrea Robison, and Hannah Zeger, all of Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald A. Thomas, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Hemminger; two brothers, John and Charles Phillips; and her grandson, Eugene W. Bowman.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, in Boonsboro.  Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the funeral home.
