Mary Margaret Wickless Stover

June 9, 1948 — November 13, 2024

Lancaster

Mary M. Stover, 76, of Lancaster, PA entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Frederick, MD on June 9, 1948, she was the loving daughter of the late Augustine G. Wickless and Dorothy Mae (Bart) Wickless.

Mary graduated from Frederick High School in 1966. She went on to attend St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, MD. She took a few years off from school to raise her son, Brian, then attended Mount St. Mary’s College. Mary graduated from Mount St. Mary’s with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1972. She received her Master’s degree in Education from Frostburg University in 1977.

Mary began her teaching career in Frederick County where she taught for twelve years. After moving to Lancaster, PA, she continued to teach for an additional 28 years. Mary taught at many schools in the Ephrata Area School District including Bergtrasse, Akron, and Clay. She retired from Clay Intermediate School in 2012. Mary was highly respected by her students, fellow teachers, and administrators. Her special teaching talents were always in Math.

Mary was a gardener, an excellent seamstress, a crafter, and a baker. She loved growing flowers both inside and outside her home. She enjoyed baking cakes for family and friends. Mary made beautiful cakes for all occasions, including wedding cakes for all her nieces' and nephews' weddings.

She loved spending time with her family and was instrumental in planning the family reunions each year. Mary’s friends described her as caring, consistent, and dedicated. Her family agrees, wholeheartedly! There is nothing Mary would not have done for a family member or friend.

Mary is survived by one son, Brian E. McQuillen, of Kearneysville, WV; and two brothers, Anthony Wickless (Susan), of Middletown, MD, and Robert Wickless of Frederick. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, James Gerwig, of Keymar, MD; and nieces and nephews, Angela Wickless Culp (Jay Hill), of Lansdale, PA, Jennifer Gerwig-Dively (Greg) of Clemmons, NC, Anthony J. Wickless (Merridith) of Frederick, Kathryn Rohr (Tom) of Ashburn, VA, and Amy Meyer (Chris) of Frederick. Mary is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews.
