Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Stevenson (nee Jacques) passed quietly December 1, 2014 in Frederick, MD. She was 92.
Betty was born in New Haven, CT. She was a graduate of Colby Junior College, New London, CT. She resided in Bryn Mawr, PA, Chicago, IL, Long Island, NY, Riverside, CT and Bristol, TN before becoming an original “Levittowner” in 1956. After leaving Levittown, she resided in Ballwin, MO before retiring in Huntington Beach, CA. Betty later resided in Santa Barbara, CA, Naples, FL and most recently Frederick, MD.
She is survived by her three children, George W. (Carolyn), Yardley, PA, Christina W. Kearney, Phoenix, AZ, and John T. Jr, Nashua, NH. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Kearney Palmer (JB), Mary F. Kearney, Tracy L. Stevenson, Lauren W. Stevenson Gorli, John (Jack) Stevenson III, and Marina Stevenson; and great-grandchildren Christopher J. Kearney, Frances A. Palmer, Foster S. Palmer, Riley A. Stevenson and Clinton J. Gorli.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Stevenson, Sr., a Navy veteran of WWII, and her parents, Percival (Perc) R. Jacques and Reita T. (Whitney) Jacques.
Betty was a proud homemaker, avid reader, and world traveler, including visits to Spain, Portugal, Thailand and China. Betty was an extremely social person and made lifelong friends wherever she went.
Betty’s final wish was for her ashes to be scattered by her children, joining those of her beloved husband.
