Mary Smith
March 29, 1943 — November 14, 2019
Mary Catherine Smith, of Thurmont, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on November 14, 2019 at the age of 76. Born in Frederick on March 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma Eckenrode.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the airplanes go by, playing cards, listening to her country music and spending time with her family. She also collected and loved all of her 500 solar powered bobble toys which brought her such joy. She was loving, kin, honest and the list could go on. Mary was loved by everyone that ever came into contact with her and will be missed by us all.
She is survived by her loving husband, John R. Smith and her sister, Mildred Hewitt. She is also survived by her children, Pamela Sue Forrest and her fiancé Wayne Wachter Sr., Melissa Ann Hanshew and her husband David; grandchildren, John Forrest and his fiancé Kelly, Crystal Willard and her husband Kris, Ashley Evans and her husband Craig, Erica Ault and her husband Chad, Felicity Doody, Corey Doody, David Jr. Hanshew, Austin Hanshew, Dylan Hanshew; and great grandchildren Justyne Forrest, James Williard, Delanie Pickett, Jackaline Forrest, David Williard, Brooklyn Forrest, Theron Ault and Isabella Evans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel P. Forrest Jr. and two brothers, Harvey and James Eckenrode.
The family will receive friends from 7-9pm on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont, MD 21788. Friends will also be received from 3-5pm & 7-9pm on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lewistown United Methodist Church Cemetery, Thurmont, MD.
