Mary Sheriff
June 2, 1922 — July 27, 2016
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Sheriff, 94, of Mt Airy, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Wade H. "Reds" Sheriff, Jr. who died in 2008.
Born on June 2, 1922, Eatonton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Lee and Mamie Brown Carnes Maddux.
She attended Georgia State College for Women. Liz was as beautician operating her own salon "Family Flair" in Silver Spring, working until age 84.
She was a member of Ashton United Methodist Church. Liz was a two time breast cancer survivor. She was an avid Bridge and Keno player, loved to cook and travel especially trips to the beach and going to play "Slots". Liz also enjoyed shopping, but her most important love was her family.
Surviving are four daughters: Cathy Hobbs and husband David of Sandy Spring, Nanci Pope, Vicki Stroup and husband Donald, and Pamela Sheriff all of Mt. Airy; eight cherished grandchildren: David Allen Hobbs, Mary Beth Kingsley, Scott Thompson, Kasey Wootton, Courtney Richards, Megan Green, Kari Colson, Kevin Stroup; sixteen adoring great grandchildren who called her "GiGi"; a brother, Percy Maddux and wife Susie of Pocomoke City as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, July 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 1, at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28325 Kemptown Road, Damascus. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy; followed by a reception.
