Mary Teresa (Spitzig) Shacklett,78, of Boonsboro, MD passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, at her home in Boonsboro, MD.
Born on October 17, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Francis Albert Spitzig and Eleanor Louise (Lewis) Spitzig.
Mary's early years were marked by a strong academic journey. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland, OH, in 1963 before furthering her education at David N. Myers University in Cleveland, graduating in 1978. These formative years laid the foundation for a successful career dedicated to helping others.
In 2006, Mary retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Cleveland, OH. Her work touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on those she assisted throughout her career.
Aside from her professional achievements, Mary was deeply involved in various organizations that spoke to her values and beliefs. She was a long-time member of the Society for Human Resource Management and played an active role as a Legion of Mary and RCIA team member at St. James Parish in Boonsboro, MD. Mary’s dedication to these groups showcased her unwavering faith and desire to contribute positively to her community.
Beyond work and service commitments, Mary found joy in hobbies such as sewing, soft goods crafting, and floral arrangements. These creative outlets not only brought her personal happiness but also allowed her to share her talents with loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter Loretta Shacklett Duus and husband McShane of Boonsboro, MD; son Sean Timothy Shacklett and wife Christy of Columbia, SC; grandson William Cranstoun Duus; sisters Eleanor McCarthy, Anne Leich, Paula Lewis, Karen Sazdoff; brothers Frank Spitzig and wife Olinda, Joseph Spitzig and wife Juliana, Eddie Spencer, William Spitzig, Gregory Spitzig and wife Janet; numerous well-loved nieces, nephews, cousins.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church, 121 North Main Street in Boonsboro, Maryland, where a Mass of Christian burial will begin at 3 pm. Father Jude Okeye will be the celebrant. Interment will be private.
