Mary Evelyn Ridgely, 94, of Mt Airy died on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Marvin L. Ridgely Sr. they were married on September 2, 1935.
Mary was born on July 25, 1918, in Frederick County, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Catherine Thompson of Glenelg, Maryland.
Surviving are her 7 out of 8 children Marvin L. Ridgely Jr., Mary E. Compton, Mildred M. Dawson, William H. Ridgely Sr., George E. Ridgely, Lenard A. Ridgely, Betty C. Woods-Fraley and the late James A, Ridgely Sr. She is also survived by 43 grandchildren, 73 great-grand children, and 33 great-great grandchildren.
Mary enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards with family, and taking care of her plants. She also loved animals and took care of many dogs and cats during her lifetime. Years ago she enjoyed raising chickens, and had a pet cow named Ruth. Mary loved taking long county car rides and dining at Golden Coral. She worked at Spring Field State Hospital and Mt Airy Sewing Factory.
Visitation will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt Airy MD on Wednesday, March 27, from 7-9pm and on Thursday, March 28, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 1pm. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Mt. Airy, Maryland.
