Mary Ridge Hankla

Mary Ellen Ridge Hankla, 57, of Gettysburg, PA, died peacefully into the hands of God, on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at her son's residence in North Carolina.

Born June 24, 1957 in Frederick, she was the daughter of Fannie Eleanor (Misner) Ridge of Thurmont, and the late Ernest W. Ridge.

Mary worked for the Postal Service for 26 years at the Patrick Street location in Frederick, where she also served on the Employee Association. She was a 1975 graduate of Catoctin High School and a former Den Mother with the Boy Scouts. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and loved to create for others. She was a very giving person.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Hankla Sr.; sons, Walter Ridge (Sarah) and Conan Hankla (Kristina); stepson, Robert Hankla Jr.; grandson, Colton Hankla; step-grandson, Quinn Hankla; siblings, Alan Misner (Janet), Trudy Talerico, Virginia Buhrman (Greg) and Robert Ridge (Chanene); and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Heather Willard (James).

Mary was predeceased by her grandparents, Ernest and Laura Ridge, and Floyd Victor and Ida May Misner.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont.

A graveside service will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th at Creagerstown Cemetery.
