Mrs. Mary Jean Rice, 83, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. She was the wife of the late Nelson Silas Rice.
Born April 27, 1929 in Johnsville, MD., she was the daughter of the late Schley Taylor Toms and Mary Fogle Toms-Ramsburg and her step-father Henry Ramsburg.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. Mrs. Rice worked for a number of years for Sagners Sewing Factory, but the “job” she enjoyed the most was being the baby sitter for numerous family members.
She is survived by her daughters Kathy Miller and husband Rick of Thurmont and Melinda Sweeney and husband Doug of Emmitsburg, grandchildren Brian Miller, Jason Sweeney, Michele Kloman, great-grandson Dylan Miller, siblings Schley “Buck” Toms and wife Ella of Burtonsville, Louise Carpenter and Edward “Eddie Toms both of Frederick. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Holt and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont on Friday, December 28, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where services will be held Saturday, December 29, at 11:am with Rev. Gary Buchman officiating
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rick Miller, Doug Sweeney, Brian Miller, Jason Sweeney, Chris McManus and Chuck Linton.
