Mrs. Mary Catherine Murphy Reed, 89 of Frederick, Maryland, died January 23, 2013.
Born in Washington, D.C., January 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James Earl Murphy, Sr. and Amy Elizabeth Lawrence and the former wife of the late Paul D. Reed.
Mary retired in 1986 from AT&T after 21 years of service.
Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, watching NASCAR racing and spending time with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy Reed O’Neal and husband Robert A., Thurmont, Judith M. Reed, Marriottsville; two sons, Robert J. Reed, Middletown; Christopher M. Reed and wife Bonnie, Marriottsville; Grandchildren, Mary Lou O’Neal Tevis and husband Gary, Robert C. O’Neal, Eric Reed and wife Leslie, Jillian Reed Hoffman and husband Sonnie, Kelly Reed Roys and husband Robert, Anthony Reed, Clayton Pilkerton, Danielle Pilkerton, Kevin Conley; Great grandchildren, Alison Grossnickle, Michael Grossnickle, Dominic Reed, and Danica Reed and extended family members Bonny Edmonds and Macy Edmonds. Mary also leaves behind sister-in-law, Elaine Holt Murphy, daughter-in-law, Debbie Reed, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and former husband, Mary was predeceased in death by daughter, Irene E. Reed, son, Daniel J. Reed, brother James Earl Murhpy, Jr., sisters Dorothy Giller and Patricia Wood, and great granddaughter Brandy Dawn Grossnickle.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM where a funeral service will be held Monday, January 28 at 11 AM. Deacon Skip Manley will officiate.
