Mary Portner

Mrs. Mary Jane (Barkman) Portner, 89 of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg. She was the wife of the late Carroll (Bud) Portner, who passed away on August 21, 1995.
Born in Wolfsville, Maryland, November 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Alice and Lloyd Barkman.
Mrs. Portner was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening, babysitting and cooking, especially cooking holiday meals when all of her family was together.
She is survived by three children David Portner (Rosemary) Zullinger, PA, Nancy Ridenour (Gary), Darlene Sharer (Rick) all from Thurmont, Eight grandchildren, Steven Ridenour (Carrie), Melissa Mathias (Jamison), Tammy Farrow (Travis), Wendy Balsley (Michael), Teresa Geiger (Eric), Donna Reinhardt (Brian), Donnie Geiger (Megan), and Timmy Geiger (Ashley), fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and a sister Marie Stimmel of WV. She was preceded in death by a brother Alonzo (Bud) and sisters Pauline, Helen and Goldie.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, Monday, March 23, from 2-4- and 7-9:00 pm, where services will be held Tuesday, March 24, at 1:00 pm., with Pastor Linda Lambert officiating.
Interment Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
