Mary Munch

October 20, 1921 — October 12, 2016

Mrs. Mary Anna Elizabeth (Lumm) Munch, 94, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the home of her son in Stephens City, VA.  Born in Antietam, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Snavely and Martha Ellen (Kretzer) Lumm.

Mary Anna was married to Raymond Francois Munch on August 26, 1951 in Boonsboro, Maryland.  Mrs. Munch was a devoted member of Sharpsburg Christ Reformed United Church of Christ , where she participated in the Women's Guild, was treasurer and taught Sunday School for many years.  She was an elementary teacher for 40 years, beginning in Sandy Hook in a one room school house and then working at Boonsboro Elementary until her son was born.  She took a year off, and then worked the remaining 21 years at Sharpsburg Elementary, retiring in June of 1983.  Mary Anna loved reading and feeding her Blue Jay's peanuts.

She is survived by her son, Raymond Francois Munch, II and his wife Kathleen of Stephens City, Virginia, grandchildren Raymond Francois Munch, III and Katrina Ann Munch, as well as nieces Barbara Ann Morrison, Diane Smith and Joyce Ann Bentz and nephew Bobby Lumm.  Mrs. Munch was preceded in death by a sister, Fannie Blockston and a brother, Charles Lumm.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16 from 4-6 PM at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 17 at 11:00 AM at Sharpsburg Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 117 West Main Street, Sharpsburg, Maryland, Reverend Delancy Catlett officiating.  Interment will be in Sharpsburg Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mary Anna Munch may be made to Sharpsburg Christ Reformed United Church of Christ at the above address, or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, #405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
