Mrs. Mary Jean (Knott) Miller, 86, of Emmitsburg, died peacefully Tuesday, April 14, at her home in the care of her children. She was the beloved wife of the late James Robert Miller, her husband of 55 years.
Born April 10, 1929 in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Alphonso and Glenna Wolfe Knott.
Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Emmitsburg. She had a great love for faith and was especially devoted to The Blessed Mary and St. Michael the Archangel. She was employed at intervals by the Daughters of Charity at St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Emmitsburg. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are eight children; James H. Miller and wife Deborah of Woodsboro, Mary Frances Morrow and husband Lester of Norfolk, VA, Bonny Keeney and husband E. Wayne of Fairfield, PA, Teresa Miller of Frederick, Michael Miller and wife Patricia of Sabillasville, Sandra Rosensteel and husband Michael of Hanover, PA, Douglas Miller of Gettysburg, PA and Nancy Cogan and husband Kevin of Emmitsburg, twenty three grandchildren, Shannon Clabaugh, Jessica Thompson, David and Robert Morrow, Justin and Ashley Keeney, Joseph, Melissa, and Tracee Ducker, Krystina, Travis, Nicole and Chelsea Andrew, Michael and Christopher Miller, David and Daniel Rosensteel, Douglas and Katie Miller, Jonathan, Joshua, Amanda and Matthew Cogan; nineteen great-grandchildren; one sister Ann and husband Robert Rohrbaugh of Fairfield, PA and one brother Victor A. Knott of Thurmont. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan L. Miller, a grandson Shane Paul Miller and a great-grandson Cassius Williams. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick Friday, April 17, from 3-5 and 7-9:00 pm, where the entire Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 Depaul Street, Emmitsburg, Saturday, April 18, at 11:00 am with Father Charles Krieg as celebrant.
Interment St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.
