Mary Metcalf

November 4, 1930 — December 27, 2014

Mary Lou (Miller) Metcalf, 84, of Knoxville, Maryland, passed from this life after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at her home while surrounded by her family.

Born on November 4, 1930, in Keyser, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. Miller and Dolly V. (Anderson) Miller Rhodes.

Mary was a 1949 graduate from Keyser High School.

She was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, where she was the teacher of the Searchers Sunday School Class, was a member and former President of the Golden Rule, was part of the Kitchen Committee, and also sang on the Choir.  She also served as the Church Financial Secretary for many years and was the coordinator of donations for the Church of the Brethren Mid-Atlantic District Disaster Auction.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who loved to garden, bake, bird watch, and especially she loved her flowers.

The family extends special appreciation to Cindy Dunn, her care giver, and is deeply appreciative to Hospice of Washington County for their support; with special thanks to Ruth and Mary.

Mary is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Wallace W. Metcalf; her five children, Rhonda K. Metcalf of Hagerstown, Stephen W. Metcalf and wife Tessie, of Wheaton, Maryland, Douglas B. Metcalf of Frederick, Debra J. Hubbard and husband David of Baker, West Virginia, and Gene A. Metcalf and wife Laura of Braddock Heights, Maryland; one sister, Catherine Rotruck of New Creek, West Virginia; her sister-in-law, Wanda Metcalf of Brunswick, Maryland; five half-brothers and sisters; and four grandchildren, Sam Hubbard and wife Meghan, Katie Hubbard and Shane LaBrush, Mary Evans and husband Alex, and Alex Metcalf.  She is also survived by one great granddaughter, Ella LaBrush.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road in Knoxville, Maryland.  Rev. R. Thomas Fralin, Jr. will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and burial will be held privately.
