Mary Markett

Mary L. Markett , 81, of Burkittsville, passed from this life on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Charles Town, WV. She was the special companion of Sid Secular of Silver Spring.

Born on May 18, 1936, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Ida Luoma Markett.

Mary worked for a number of years at NIH but for the past 25 years owned and operated Mary and Me Cleaning Service.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and growing gourds, conducting and attending yard sales; but most of all loved animals, rescuing many dogs and cats over the years.

She is survived by two daughters: Susan Hoffman and friend Andy Smothers of Brunswick and Justine Smith and friend Raymond of Frederick; five sons: Michael Smith and wife Sherri of Missouri, Ralph Smith and wife Donna, John Smith all of Burkittsville, Alan Smith and friend Cyndi of Myersville and Kevin and friend Paula of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren: Ray Hoffman, Matt Hoffman, Amy Cunningham, Brandon Smith, Tristan Ault, Chad Ault, Shawna Smoot, Shelby Byrne, Chris Henderson, Ashley Smith and Travis Smith; 19 great grandchildren, a step-son Dallas Richards. Mary was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Raymond Hoffman.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM on Sunday, September 17, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick where services will begin at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private.
