Mary Esther Ireland, of Frederick Maryland, went home to our Lord to join her beloved husband in God’s gentle hands February 29, 2016. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old.
Essie, as she was fondly called, was born July 25, 1925 in Graiguecullen, Carlow, Ireland to Patrick and Elizabeth Callinan. She was raised in a large Catholic family with eight sisters and five brothers. She immigrated to America in 1950 and resided in Pocatello, Idaho where she met her husband, Richard Earl Ireland. Mary spent her entire life being a devoted wife and mother supporting Richards’s job as a nuclear engineer moving the family throughout the country and eventually settling in Frederick, Maryland. After losing her beloved husband, Mary kept busy travelling and visiting her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are seven children, Richard Earl Ireland Jr. of Thurmont, William F. Ireland and wife Jane of Frederick, Shannon Ireland-Magro and husband John of Frederick, Kathleen Ireland-Popores and husband Greg of Wilton, New Hampshire, Commander John K.F. Ireland and wife Lisa of Louisville, Kentucky, Heather Ireland Manning and husband Bill of Mansfield, Texas, and Kerry Lee Ireland of Salisbury, Maryland; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother Frank of Graiguecullen, Ireland, and sisters Mabel McGee, Chrissie Walker, Dolores Murray, and Geraldine O’Dea all of Carlow, Ireland.
She will be dearly missed and live forever in our hearts. We will be together again soon, Please God.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Joseph-on-Carrollton Manor Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. with Rev. Michael Jendrek officiating.
Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Maryland.
