Mrs. Mary B. Hargett, 84, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died suddenly in the early morning hours on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at her home in Monrovia. She was the wife of John A. Hargett. They were to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary in September of this year.

Born May 5, 1930 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Bart and Mary Virginia Brunner Bart Dodson.

Mary was a homemaker having raised three daughters and serving as a foster parent for several years. Additionally, she was a second mother to her granddaughter, Megan. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, attending yard sales, putting together puzzles and baking homemade pies and canning fresh vegetables. According to her daughters, Mary was the "backbone of the family."

For a ten year period, Mary worked as a teller for the former University National Bank in Gaithersburg and the Bank of Bethesda. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by three daughters, Joyce King and husband, Henry, of Mt. Airy; Janet Poppe and husband, William, of Aurora, Il; and Judy Price and husband, Cecil, of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Caprice Ricketts, Kimberly Ahlert, Christopher Poppe, Matthew Clint, Megan Clarkson, Andrea Price and Bradley Price; and six great-grandchildren, Devin, Alexis, Mia, Isabella, Geneva, and Alex.

Mary is also survived by her brother, William (Elizabeth) Bart, and sisters, Vivian (Jack) Marshall, Dorothy Fox, Margaret (Robert) Ayers, Barbara (Leslie) Beauchamp, and Doris Hensley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, John Austin Bart; a sister, Shirley Ann Green; and a grandson, Brian Curtis Clint.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 from Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Road in Monrovia. The family will receive friends at church from 10 until 11 a.m.

Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
